Nineteenth-century poet Ivan Krasko's Verses is regarded as one of the masterpieces of Slovak literature. Other outstanding poets of the Slovak National Revival were Janko Kráf, Pavol O Hviezdoslav and Svetozár H Vajanský.Among post-WWI literary landmarks are Petr Jilemnický's immense and visionary Chronicle and the brilliant village tales of Bozena Slancikova. The Europe-based journalist Timothy Garton Ash's We the People: the Revolutions of 1989 features gripping I-was-there accounts of the revolutions that swept away the region's old guard in 1989.
