The situation in the CAR has deteriorated in recent years, and sporadic fighting has been reported throughout the country, including the capital, Bangui. While Bangui currently is fairly calm, the situation could change suddenly. Foreigners are targeted regularly by rebels and thieves. The UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office issued a travel advice statement in November 2001 warning citizens not to travel to the CAR. Check with your own embassy if you intend to go to the CAR, but seriously consider changing your plans and travelling to a safer country for the time being.
