Learn2 Obtain a Business License (continued)
Step 4: Complete the application

Filling out a business license application shouldn't take you more than an hour (in some cases, it'll only take 10 minutes). The detail required will vary based on your type of business. In general, you'll be required to give basic information such as location, type of business, hours of operation, and activity that will occur at the site.

Once you've completed the application, proofread it to make sure you've filled out every blank. (If you like, have a spouse, friend, or business partner double-check it for you.)

Once you're finished, all you need to do is turn in the application and hand over a check. Application fees are generally under $100 (U.S.), but will vary according to location. Note: You may be able to mail the application as well. Check with your city office.

If all goes well, which it should in most cases, the next time you walk into that office it will be as a licensed business owner.
