How should I carry my money while I'm abroad? |

Don't carry large amounts of cash--if it's stolen, it can't be replaced. Also leave all unnecessary credit cards at home. Traveler's checks and internationally accepted credit cards are the best ways to go, especially cards that can access ATM machines globally. In both cases, write down all identifying numbers so that you can put a hold on them if they're stolen. Also write down the special contact numbers for lost or stolen traveler's checks or credit cards. Keep those identifying numbers in a separate place from your purse or wallet.
If you use your credit cards, write down each expense charged to them so that you don't exceed your limit. In some countries you can be arrested for exceeding the limit!
In case you need emergency cash, bring your bank's phone number with you so that you can arrange a wire transfer. If you find yourself destitute, report to your national consulate or embassy, which will help you contact a relative or friend back home who can wire you money.
