| | Patients should receive periodic blood tests to check kidney function and chest X-rays, CT scans of the abdomen and chest and other imaging studies to watch for a recurrence, metastasis or new tumors. Patients should have a checkup every three months for the first year, every four months for the second to fifth years and yearly thereafter.
Recurrences occur most often within the first three years after surgery at the original site or in the lungs, bone, liver or brain. If a recurrence is detected early, surgery can be done to prevent the spread of any new cancers.
