Harrisburg woman buys van, seeks house with prize from Web

Shawntel Morton of Harrisburg opened her apartment door Thursday to find a group of people with a television camera and a giant check.

Morton was told she was the latest winner of the $1 million prize given away monthly by iWon.com, a Web site that encourages people to use it by giving away daily, weekly and monthly cash prizes.

The people on her doorstep included a team from the TV show "Inside Edition" and representatives from iWon.com.

"It's been wild," Morton said.

She called her husband, James, at work at the State Correctional Institution at Camp Hill. She told him she'd won, but didn't say how much.

Then the family and camera crew drove to the prison to break the news in person.

"I almost passed out," he said.

Morton didn't expect the media attention and said her children, Alexander, 7, and Nicollette, 4 are loving it. "They're running around screaming," she said.

Morton and her family have purchased a 2001 Ford Windstar and would like to buy a house, she said. The family lives in an apartment.

"We've invested the rest," Morton said. She plans to keep her job at Gordon's Jewelers, and her husband plans to keep working at the prison, she said.

"We're not doing anything stupid. The money will be used wisely," he said.

Morton began using iWon.com after seeing an ad for the service after the Super Bowl last year.

The site can be used to search the Web, check e-mail, shop, read the news and other Internet activities.

iWon.com gives away $10,000 every day, 30 prizes of $1,000 every week and $1 million every month.

During each visit to the site, Morton tried to accumulate 100 points. Each point acts as an entry to the giveaways. Morton didn't visit daily. "Only when I had a chance to get to the computer," she said.

Morton's husband considers the money an extra nest egg. He said nothing has changed.

"We're still the same, normal Morton family," he said.
