NEW YORK, Sept 25 (Reuters) - A woman surfing the Web with iWon.com in hopes of winning a cash prize from the media network instead got a diamond ring and an offer of eternal devotion, the Web site said.
Rosemary Burgio of Franklin Square, N.Y., logged on to iWon.com on Saturday and was led to a page containing a message from Mario Scirica, her boyfriend of three years, asking her to marry him. As Rosemary read, Mario personally knelt and presented her with a glittering diamond engagement ring, iWon said.
iWon.com claims this was the first time a marriage proposal has appeared on a top-five Internet portal for all its users to see. iWon.com, which awards daily, weekly, monthly, and annual cash prizes, says it has given away more than $26 million in cash since it started up nearly one year ago.
Now it can add one marriage proposal to that tally.
