As a place to do business, the Internet has proven to be strange. You would think that you would be paying for these search services, but they are free. iWon (www.iwon.com) goes a step beyond that, giving you an opportunity to win money by using its service.
"Hey, if you're going to search, why not have a chance to make some money while doing it? It's an idea that has caught on big, with iWon experiencing huge gains in users," says Sullivan. iWon looks like any other Web portal, but each link has a number by it. Say the number is two. If you click on the link, you're automatically entered twice in its contest. iWon limits you to 100 entries per day.
Through March, iWon was awarding a prize of $10,000 every day and $1 million once a month. You will need to check with the site for the value of the current sweepstakes. And yes, the site does offer "a competent search engine" of about 48 million pages, powered by Inktomi, according to Sherman.
