PM, meet RW In late October 1999, Chicago-based Rudnick & Wolfe (founded 1936) and Piper & Marbury (founded mid-19th century), made their merger official, and Piper Marbury Rudnick & Wolfe LLP came into being. The new firm counts 750 attorneys, and over $275 million in combined revenues. It also unites Rudnick's traditional strengths in real estate, IP, and franchise work with Piper & Marbury's capabilities in corporate matters, venture capital, government contracts, and communications. Tech ambitions Like other firms in proximity to the Washington DC-area high-tech boom, PMRW seeks to provide, in the words of firm co-chair Lee Miller, "full service to technology firms." The firm's Information Technology group focuses on Software Licensing, Outsourcing, Internet Law/E-Business, Systems Integration & Consulting Services, Software Development, Communications Networks, Equipment Procurement, International Services, Distributor/VAR Arrangements, Mergers and Acquisitions, and Dispute Resolution & Litigation Services. However, also like other firms in proximity to the Washington DC-area high-tech boom, PMRW has had to scramble to ward off poaching from California-based firms. In March 1999, SF-based Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison swept in and snared 1 partner and three associates from Piper & Marbury's DC office. That same spring, Brobeck struck again, poaching a pair of partners and associates.
