Sprung from the loins of the New Deal McKenna & Cuneo's historical roots extend back to 1939. One of the firm's founders, Homer Cummings, was FDR's Attorney General; another, Ashley Sellers, is credited as the principal author of the Administrative Procedure Act. IN 2000, McKenna & Cuneo's more than 250 lawyers practice in offices throughout the U.S., and in Brussels, Belgium. Lovin' the Gov. K's Given the firm's history, it's not surprising to note that a major strength is government contract work. Indeed, in a December 1999 profile of McKenna & Cuneo, the Legal Times noted that early lawyers at the firm, Gilbert Cuneo and Albert Reeves Jr., helped created the first government contracts practice. McKenna's attorneys in this area focus primarily on contract formation, protests, and contract performance, contract claims and litigation. London's not calling McKenna has leveraged its government expertise to expand its presence in the European Union. The firm's Brussels office advises clients on the following: corporate and transactional law; EU antitrust law; international trade law; environmental law; government contracts; and matters for international financial institutions. In 1997, McKenna opened a branch in London, but closed the office after only one year of operation. Firm officials told The Lawyer that the decision had been made to "to consolidate resources in the Brussels office."
