McKenna & Cuneo's historical roots extend back to 1939. One of the firm's founders, Homer Cummings, was FDR's Attorney General; another, Ashley Sellers, is credited as the principal author of the Administrative Procedure Act. Given the firm's history, it's not surprising to note that a major strength is government contract work. Indeed, in a December 1999 profile of McKenna & Cuneo, the Legal Times noted that early lawyers at the firm, Gilbert Cuneo and Albert Reeves Jr., helped created the first government contracts practice. McKenna's attorneys in this area focus primarily on contract formation, protests, and contract performance, contract claims and litigation.
