Don't mess with Jenkens
Since 1951, Texas clients have turned to Jenkens & Gilchrist for the full panoply of legal services. Founded in Dallas, the firm has grown to 425 attorneys, and has planted branch offices in Austin, Houston, Los Angeles, San Antonio, Washington DC, and Chicago (affiliate office). The firm stresses its "unique expertise in a variety of industry and market segments," among them Agricultural Law, First Amendment Rights, NAFTA Issues, Toxic Torts, and Venture Capital. Transportation is another strong area, a strength recognized by Governor George W. Bush, who appointed Jenkens' President David Laney to the head of the Texas Transportation Commission in 1995.
Laney in charge
That honor, however, isn't the only one that Laney can boast of. Many credit Laney as the force guiding Jenkens through a period of explosive growth - in January 1998, the National Law Journal proclaimed Jenkens & Gilchrist "the fastest-growing large law firm in the country." Laney has made a particular push to grow the firm's health care and IP capabilities.
