Beinecke at the helm
Hughes has also won recognition for its chairwoman: Candace Krugman Beinecke. A corporate specialist, Beinecke was unanimously chosen by Hughes Hubbard & Reed's 13-member executive committee when it met to name a new chairman in April 1999. Beinecke also earned the distinction of being the first woman ever to lead a large New York law firm. Since her election, Beinecke has been asked to give her advice to younger women attorneys on several occasions. In comments to Crain's New York Business, Beinecke advised "other women in business is be yourself, be tenacious and be overprepared." In The New York Times, Beinecke counseled younger attorneys with the following words: "Don't wear someone else's clothes if they don't fit."
