G&W at DFW
Since its 1909 founding in Dallas, Gardere & Wynne has spread its reach throughout the Southeast, opening offices in Houston, Tulsa, and Mexico City. 1995 was a particularly good year for the firm - its merger with Sewell & Riggs rendered Gardere & Wynne the fifth-largest Texas-based firm. In 2000, G&W's nearly 300 lawyers practice across 30 areas.
More summers, less offers
G&W has attracted attention for its expansion of its summer hiring. In 1999, for example, the firm hired 17 more clerks, bringing the summer total from 23 to 40. Evidently, however, the firm intended to steer clear of the shoals of over-hiring. When offer time came around, only 77.5 of its 1999 clerks received offers, down from 91.8 percent in 1998.
