Four decades, 13 offices, 300 lawyers Cozen and O'Connor can't boast of a terribly long history, but can nevertheless count itself among Philadelphia's most profitable firms. Founded in 1968, the 300-lawyer firm has grown to 13 offices nationwide, and, as of December 1998, a branch in London. Cozen's roots are in litigation, and the firm maintains a litigation-heavy practice. Business at the firm breaks down into three areas: business law, commercial litigation, and insurance litigation. The joys of 1998 As indicated by the opening of its London branch, 1998 proved a fine year for Cozen. The firm brushed up against the $100 million mark with $98 million in revenues, according to The American Lawyer. In terms of the AmLaw profitability index (the ratio of profits per partner to revenue per lawyer), Cozen was second only to Morgan, Lewis & Bockius among Philadelphia firms. Shooting blank Another notable event for Cozen in 1998 was in fact a non-event. Observers had anticipated a "mega-merger" between Cozen and fellow Philadelphian Blank Rome Comisky & McCauley. In spring 1998, however, logistical and other impediments caused the firms to call off plans.
