Cleveland mainstay In the broad scheme of things, 1916 wasn't such a great year for humankind. However, at the very least, the legal profession witnessed one bright spot: the founding of Baker & Hostetler LLP in Cleveland, Ohio. As it enters the new millennium, Baker & Hostetler claims 500 attorneys nationwide. The firm splits its full service business into 20 practice areas, although touting the fact that it has "structured [its] services around clients' businesses and industries rather than only adhering strictly to the traditional legal practice area structure." Quite at home in Washington, too One "industry" where Baker & Hostetler fares well is lobbying. In September 1999, the firm lured in Dennis Eckart, a former congressman from Ohio, who brought his lobbying practice to Baker & Hostetler from the D.C. office of Arter & Hadden. Asked by The Washington Post for his reasons for his departure, Eckart pointed to Baker's "phenomenal" media and technology practice.
